Relay/Substation Technician - City of Jacksonville Beach
CITY OF JACKSONVILLE BEACH invites applications for the position of:
|SALARY:||$31.13 - $42.50 Hourly|
|GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:|
|Performs difficult technical work in the inspection, repair, maintenance and replacement of electrical substation equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Relay/Substation Crew Leader.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
|ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:|
|Installing, testing, calibrating, maintaining and repairing electronic and electro-mechanical relaying, metering and related equipment associated with electrical substations; revising and updating plans and records.
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:|
|Thorough knowledge of the technical equipment and practices involved in substation maintenance and operation; general knowledge of mathematics, physics and electrical theory to include some knowledge of electronics and of the principles of measuring electric power; skill in the use of equipment and tools; ability to keep written records; ability to follow oral and written instructions including sketches and diagrams; ability to diagnose malfunctions in equipment and take proper corrective measures; ability to schedule and supervise the work of others; ability to read wiring schematics and connection diagrams.|
|EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:|
|Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by technical courses in electronics and the repair of electrical utility equipment and considerable experience with the repair and maintenance of electrical utility substation equipment.
Possession of an appropriate CDL driver's license valid in the State of Florida.
