Relay Substation Crew Leader
|SALARY:||$32.70 - $44.64 Hourly|
|GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:|
|Performs advanced, highly skilled electrical work in the construction, maintenance, operation, and repair of substations; performs related work as required. Duties include the supervision of Substation/Relay Technicians and Apprentice Substation/Relay Technicians, and/or, Lineman, and other assigned crew in the performance of each substation construction project per scope of work. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Relay/Substation C&M Supervisor. Supervision is exercised over subordinate skilled and technical workers.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, hazards, and oils.
The Relay/Substation Crew Leader is responsible for managing and directing the activities of all Substation personnel and is expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment to ensure that the quality and quantity of work performed is in compliance with applicable safety standards and operating policies. The hazardous conditions of working in close proximity to energized equipment in substations are extremely critical factors of this job.
|ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:|
|Supervising, scheduling and coordinating the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment associated with electrical substation; preparing and maintaining appropriate drawings, records and files; providing continuing training for subordinates and ensuring safety rules are followed.
|KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:|
|Thorough knowledge of substation operations; thorough knowledge of testing and calibrating relays, transformer/feeder loads and other substation related activities; thorough knowledge of safety requirements and hazards connected with the work; ability to understand and work from construction and wiring plans, blueprints and diagrams; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate technical staff; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, subordinates, associates and customers.
|EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:|
|Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and at least five (5) years of experience in relay/substation maintenance and operations to include considerable supervisory experience.
Possession of CDL driver's license valid in the State of Florida. CPR certification.
