Director, Water Resources – Utilities Commission City of New Smyrna Beach
The Director of Water Resources is responsible for providing leadership over and establishing the strategic direction of the Water Resources Department, including but not limited to: operational policies and practices, budget, operational performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and resolving discrepancies to maximize the strategic use of the Commission’s water assets. The Director is responsible for the planning, directing, and coordinating of all water production, wastewater reclamation, water production wells and booster pumping stations, lift station maintenance, and plant and field operations activities through designated staff, consultants, contractors, other U.C. departments, governmental agencies, and the general public. The Director also provides input into long-term operational and engineering solutions for Commission water assets.
This position requires the following education and experience:
A minimum of ten years of experience in water resources operations and/or engineering with progressively increasing supervisory responsibility in the water utility industry required. Bachelor’s Degree required in field of Study: Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or related field preferred. For degreed Engineers, a Florida State Professional Engineering license is preferred (if licensed in another State, transfer of the P.E. license to Florida within six months from date of hire is required). Must be able to work during emergent events, such as storms, operating emergencies and other similar events.
Additionally, must possess excellent writing, analytical, presentation, and public speaking skills. Experience in budget and workload planning, negotiating complex contracts, working on federal and state grants, and working with city, state and local governmental officials. Demonstrated working knowledge of operating principles and practices, for the construction, engineering, maintenance, and operation of municipal water and wastewater facilities. This includes working knowledge of the engineering, chemical, and bacteriological processes related to water supply and treatment and wastewater treatment operations. Experience in managing safety and hazards associated with the water and wastewater industry.
Salary range: $103,946 - $135,130. Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications. Compensation package includes benefits, such as health insurance, vacation time, and retirement.
