Florida Lineman Competition

Safety - Excellence - Honor

Established in 2001 by the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA), the Florida Lineman Competition is where public power lineworkers come together from all over the region to demonstrate their skill and knowledge in the craft of line work. At the Competition, journeyman and apprentices can compete for professional recognition, attend training courses and practice essential skills in a safe environment.

After careful consideration and consultation with participating member utilities, FMEA has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Florida Lineman Competition.

In surveying the member utilities that regularly compete in the Florida Lineman Competition, we received valuable feedback that informed the ultimate decision to forgo the 2021 event in a pandemic environment. Some member utilities are more than eager to resume in-person events and indicated a willingness to send competitors with additional safety precautions in place. However, more of the regularly competing utilities were not able to commit to participating in the event and felt it would be best to cancel the 2021 competition. In addition to ongoing health and safety concerns due to the global pandemic, employee travel restrictions due to budgetary impacts of COVID-19 also factored into the feedback from participating member utilities.

For 20 years, the Florida Lineman Competition has been one of FMEA’s most loved and anticipated events. Year after year, the success and growth of the competition is because of you – the competitors, teams, judges, volunteers and dedicated planning committee members, and the public power utilities that proudly back your participation in the FLC. When the time comes, we look forward to calling on all of you to make the 2022 Florida Lineman Competition a bigger and better celebration than ever.
